McKellen, known for his stellar performances in "X-Men" and the memorable portrayal of Gandalf in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, humorously hinted at the uncertainty of his participation in the new movie by stating, "If I'm alive."

While currently captivating audiences as Falstaff in the U.K. stage production of "Player Kings," McKellen shed light on his thoughtful approach towards selecting roles, particularly in the later stages of his illustrious career. Expressing his contemplation on mortality, he shared, "If you want to know that you are mortal, you just have to look at your address book."

The esteemed actor further emphasized the weight of each potential role, acknowledging the possibility that any part he undertakes could be his last. Reflecting on this reality, McKellen revealed his mindset when reviewing scripts, saying, "So when a script comes through, or the hint of an offer, you think, 'This might be my last job. No. I'm not doing that.' So if Falstaff is my last job, I'd better get it right, hadn't I?"

Addressing the speculation surrounding his return as Gandalf in "The Hunt for Gollum," McKellen conveyed his interest, noting, "There is no script, there is no offer, there is no plan." However, he acknowledged rumors that Gandalf may feature in the new installment, humorously mentioning his unkempt appearance by stating, "I haven't shaved in months."

As fans eagerly anticipate the potential involvement of the beloved actor in the new "Lord of the Rings" film, McKellen’s candid reflections on mortality and his enduring passion for his craft serve as a poignant reminder of his remarkable talent and dedication to his craft.
